EPA looking to give out grants to address health, environment issues

UNDATED -- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 office in Dallas is accepting grant applications for $100,000 in funding to support projects designed to educate and enable communities to understand and address local health and environmental issues.

These grants are available in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Eligible applicants from non-profit, faith-based and tribal organizations working in the community of the proposed project are encouraged to apply.

EPA Region 6 will award four grants of $25,000 to support projects that address a community's local environmental issues through collaborative partnerships.

Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office holding checkpoints on New Year's Eve

Lonoke County Sheriff’s Department will be conduct sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and stepped up enforcement through the New Years Holiday.

The Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office will be out in force looking for all drunk drivers with an emphasis on violators of Arkansas’ Underage DUI Law, DWI, DUI DRUGS and Driving on Suspended Drivers License.

Ribbon cutting and open house for North Metro rehab center

The Cabot North Metro Physical Rehabilitation Center is holding an open house on Thursday, from 4 – 5:30 p.m.

The physical therapy staff as well as Director Joe Farrer will be on hand for people to meet and tour the facility with. Refreshments will be provided. The rehab center is located on West Main St. in Cabot in the Cabot Medical Plaza.

The orthopedic surgeons at the facility will also do a ribbon cutting.
