CABOT, Ark. (KTHV) - Southside Elementary is celebrating 30 years of excellence on Tuesday, September 22. 

On September 22, 1985 Southside Elementary was dedicated by then Governor Bill Clinton. Thirty years later, school members will join hands as they celebrate the school Dedication Day. 

Officials will be gathering everyone in the school and leading them out to the back playground at 2:30 p.m. to celebrate the big day. 

They ask that the public join them in their celebration of 30 years of excellence on Tuesday.

Arkansas man takes plea deal in power grid attacks

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas man has pleaded guilty in a series of attacks on a power grid in the central part of the state.

U.S. Attorney Christopher Thyer said Tuesday that 38-year-old Jason Woodring of Jacksonville pleaded guilty to the attacks between August and October 2013. Prosecu

tors agreed that Woodring should receive a 15-year sentence in federal prison under the plea deal. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 18.

Woodring admitted to downing a 500,000-volt power line onto a railroad track near Cabot, cutting down power poles and setting fire to an electrical station in Scott.

He was arrested in October 2013 following an explosion under power lines near his home.

Arkansas Legislature to remain under GOP control

Arkansas Legislature to remain under GOP control


LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republicans have locked up control of the Arkansas Legislature for 2015.

The GOP on Tuesday won at least 62 seats in the 100-member House, while Democrats took at least 34. Results are pending on four races.

In the 35-member Senate, Republicans will hold a 24-11 margin after winning all four races decided Tuesday.

Republicans also won all seven constitutional offices.

In 2012, Republicans won control of the Legislature for the first time since Reconstruction, clinching 51 seats. Afterward, lawmakers passed one of the strictest abortion laws in the country and approved a voter ID law - but both laws were later found unconstitutional.

Legislators also passed a bipartisan plan to expand health coverage to more than 200,000 people by using Medicaid money to buy private health insurance for poorer Arkansans.
